Using model fish pens, students try changing density of fish, percent vaccinated, and antibiotic regimes, determining optimal parameters for each of these factors. They then must suggest a strategy involving combinations of those parameters for preventing two different diseases among the fish. Students explore several basic epidemiology topics, including thresholds for epidemics, and how reducing density through either lower population size or vaccination can prevent disease spread. Although this lab was written for upper-level students, the ideas are basic enough that we\'ve adapted a version of it for use in a public exhibit at the Museum of Science of Boston.\r\n\x3c/span\x3e\x3cbr/\x3e\n\x3cbr/\x3e\n\x3cstrong\x3eLevel\x3c/strong\x3e: Intro or advanced\x3cbr/\x3e\n\x3cstrong\x3eKey Concepts\x3c/strong\x3e: Disease dynamics; Disease transmission; Vaccination\x3cbr/\x3e\n\x3cstrong\x3eCourses\x3c/strong\x3e: Applied Ecology; Aquatic Ecology; Ecology; Intro Bio: Eco/Evo/Genetics; Marine Biology; Population Biology\x3cbr/\x3e\n \x3cstrong\x3eReviews:\x3c/strong\x3e\x3cbr /\x3e\n \x3c/span\x3e \x3c!-- /description --\x3e\n\n \n \x3cblockquote\x3e\x3cem\x3e\x26quot;My class just did the sick fish lab. It was great!
